VILLA
MARIA OUR RULE
This is
a prayerful house of study. Our aim is: to help university students
develop themselves in studies and in culture; to teach them to have
a sense of responsibility, and in every way possible to fit them for
their place in the future world of business. It will be to your advantage
to observe this Rule carefully and conscientiously.
Villa Maria is ruled by a Governor, a Treasurer, and three Council members
all students, and all elected by the students. The Governor is fully
in charge, and my representative between the students and me. The Treasurer
is fully in charge of finances; monthly dues are paid to him (or to
his assistant) before or on the first day of each month.
1. The
language of this house is ENGLISH ONLY! Students should take every opportunity
to perfect themselves in this language.
2. Each student is allotted a morning duty every week, to help develop
the sense of responsibility. The manner in which you perform these lights
duties will be an indication of your character.
3. An educated man is - or should be - a neat man. "Dress so as
not be noticed." Noisy shoes are distraction.
4. A study hall is provided for all; absolute silence must be
maintained there at all times as completely as it is in any library.
This rule holds for all days - holydays, and even during vacation. Only
necessary school material should be brought into the study hall; clothing,
food, magazines, games, etc., are "off limits" there.
5. Smoking will be permitted, but never above the first floor (except
in the recreation room, and then only if adequate ash trays are used).
Smoking is not permitted during meals.
6. Liquor in any form may not be brought into the property - neither
inside you or outside of you. Inebriety will not tolerated.
7. Students may not stay away nights, except in their own homes.
8. Vistors will be welcomed at all times except during the 7:00-10:00p.m.
study period. Politeness demands that vistors may be brought upstairs
without special permission; women, never.
9. During school terms, Saturday and holiday afternoons are free to
5:00p.m. ; all day Sunday is free from 10:00a.m.-5:00p.m. All should
leave the property on Sunday by 10:00a.m. The bell for study does not
ring on Saturday evenings, nor on the eve of holidays; it is free time,
but not off the property. Students should arrange for hikes,
movies, concerts, etc., on free days.
10. A weekly meeting, followed by a half-hour lecture, is held every
Wednesday evening 6:30-7:30. No one should be absent on this evening.
11. No books or food should ever be brought to the dormitories.
12. If there is any doubt in your mind concerning any of these rules,
consult the Governor. Continued willful violation of these rules will
merit expulsion.
